2.1 MISSION
Profweb’s Web site is instituted by the ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS) in collaboration with partners from the collegial network.
In recent years, major efforts have been made to ensure increased use of information technologies (IT) in educational programs at the collegial level. The MELS has contributed to that effort through, among other things, its financial support to organizations and associations whose mandate relates to the activation, distribution, development, and production of pedagogical material; as well as to the publication of research and development of tools aimed at the teaching community. The purpose of the resulting products and services of those groups is to enrich pedagogical content and use at the collegial level in order to promote student learning, notably with respect to IT competency.
The Consultative Committee for IT Integration in College Education was put into effect to ensure the coordination of all partners’ efforts and to facilitate the development of new avenues of intervention. In spite of all the efforts and realizations accomplished by the various partners, we observe that many teachers are not familiar with the resources and, consequently, do not make full use of their products and services.
We therefore need to ensure a greater accessibility to the available information and resources in order to reach more teachers and help them enrich their pedagogical activities by integrating IT into their curriculum. Profweb adheres to this goal by offering a one-stop gateway to all products, services, and projects realized by the collegial network. The Web site is a crossroad for this expertise and therefore contributes to the development of the learning community.
Profweb, the Quebec college crossroad for IT integration, is made available to the teachers of the collegial network in order to facilitate the integration of IT into teaching and learning activities.
Profweb has two distinct services:
Profweb is therefore contributing to:
2.2 THE GOALS OF PROFWEB
2.3 RESPONSABILITY FOR EDITORIAL CONTENT
2.4 GUIDELINES FOR THE DISTRIBUTION AND THE COMPILATION OF CONTENT
Profweb does not substitute or override its partners in their respective responsibilities. Profweb mainly seeks to distribute their resources using information automatically distributed by those partners. Profweb is therefore not to be considered a space that stores resources that IT Partners produce or refer to the Web site. Additionally, teachers have the possibility of saving files (Web sites, images, documents, etc.) in the Personal Web Space , which may, consequently, serve to support pedagogical activities.
2.5 ACCESS TO PROFWEB
Everyone has access to Profweb at http://www.profweb.qc.ca. However, a user name and password are necessary to access the Personal Web Space section.
2.6 LANGUAGES
Profweb exists in both a French and English version. There are no plans to develop Profweb in any other language.
2.7 WEB SITE STRUCTURE
The Web site is divided into sections for which the editing5 and the on-line publication process6 relating to its content7 is, as the case may be:
The sections in which authors are authorized to edit their work, as per the different terms of agreement:
The sections8 in which the right to any editorial revision is reserved for the Coordinator and Collaborator, or for the partners (see Table in section 5.2):
