Workshop description

How are a college’s IT resources organized and structured? What are the essential security protocols? What type of IT support can we expect locally? What are our responsibilities as users, and how autonomous should we be with respect to the IT environment? What are the everyday equipment-management tasks which we should be aware of, in order to clearly express our needs?
To demystify the technical and organizational context of our technological environment and identify the basics, the various parameters associated with the management of IT tools are covered: conservation, archiving and flow of information within the system and over a network, dedicated servers, shared directories, centralized and decentralized printing, creation of user accounts, shared access, administration of a mail server, e-mail/SPAM, terminal servers, etc.
