| Workshop description |
The technological potential of freeware is an often debated issue. What is freeware exactly? Contrary to popular belief, free software exists for Windows and Macintosh — not just for Linux. Beyond copyright issues and the opposition to commercial monopolies, what types of products are truly useful to the network and to teaching? Can the use of public domain tools encourage the educational integration of IT? Can it facilitate student access to IT resources and to educational software applications? To what extent does the access to freeware ease a college’s financial burden in maintaining its IT environment and managing information on the Intranet and Extranet? |
